If you haven't had a wine trip there before I would suggest, it would be your best bet. You will be able to choose from a lot of great wineries in Santa Barbara. But then again the whole trip was planned by my limo company.. was an hours drive from San Diego....I guess Santa Barbara would take approx 2 hours or more.. Plan some active games for the boys. If you would like to have a wine party then get sitters for the children and have an adult party another time. This day is for you son and his friends. Are you going to let the parents know ahead of time some may be uncomfortable with this situation. I just want on a wine tasting this past weekend with over 20 people and there was not one sober person there. Why don't you give the parents a break and let them leave their kids at your house for the few hours if you are worried about an adult activity. YES!
